Anyone who played softball in the NSAA during the decade of the 90s will remember the “Goon Squad”, an affectionally named group of young lads born in the 70s who showed up just in time to provide us with some enthusiastic sandlotters to get us thru those long seasons.

Posssilby the most memorable of the goons were Jason F, Mark S, Josh C, John K, Jojo Cato and Bryan Hawk, all of whom played a significant number of nights with us from 1990 thru 2000. Other memorable bit players included Scotty R, Cryrob, Tony Blue, Todd W and of course, Chicken Boy.

Within a few short years after that, 1997 to be exact, a couple of these guys, Josh and Scotty, moved out of Arcadia and up to San Francisco where they formed up a rock/jam band called Tea Leaf Green. The other 2 guys in the quartet at the outset were Trevor Garrod and Ben Chambers. In 29 short years, look what they accomplished:

  • Nine studio albums, 8 live albums, 2 DVDs.
  • Touring the entire country, performing 1,522 concerts, along with one in Amsterdam.
  • Had a documentary made about them in 2006 called “Rock N Roll Band.”
  • And now, after Covid, they seem to be on an uptick again, that could develope legs. Heck, both Mick Jagger (Stones) and Michael E Love (Beach Boys) are still out there flogging it in their 80s.

  • THE GOON SQUAD THEN.........
    ...AND NOW.
